The vines were planted by the creek in the 1960s as a trial block for the 1654 Shiraz clone, on sandy brown loam with grey clay. This single-block wine went out of production in 2005, but we brought it back in 2018.
Deep magenta/crimson with aromas of super ripe, macerated dark and red plum, boysenberry, mulberry and dark cherry fruits. Layers of fruitcake spices, ironstone, jasmine, roasting meats, dark chocolate and earth. The trademark concentration is there, but it at first seems a little finer than other wines in the stable, then things turn dark and spicy and long of finish with the tug of powdery tannins and a real graphitey end point.
